Comic Review: Shattered Empire

Shattered Empire is a comic book that takes place right at the battle of Endor featured in Return of the Jedi. We are introduced to Poe Dameron`s parents Shara Bey and Kes Dameron, who are both pilots in the battle for the rebellion. Classic characters like Han Solo, Chewbacca, Luke Skywalker, Leia, Mon Mothma, Admiral Ackbar, C3Po, and R2-D2 are featured prominenetly as well. The very first page has an illustration of Vader fighting Luke Skywalker with the emperor watching on the second death star, which was my favorite illustration in the whole book.

There is a lot of action with the Millennium Falcon, X-wings, Y-wings, and A-wings all trying to fight and take down TIE fighters. Twenty days after the battle of the endor, Princess Leia and Poe Dameron`s mother went to Naboo. They meet the Queen of Naboo, and discovered that the empire is messing with satellites attempting to flood Naboo completely and destroy it. Leia, the Queen, and Shara Dameron take some very old Naboo star fighters and try to destroy the satellites in the ship.

But before they left, Leia was standing in the hangar bay, right where Darth Maul was in episode 1 and she says she feels cold and the image is of Leia with Maul`s face clouded over her.

Shara Dameron tries her best to hold off the tie fighters while the Queen and Leia destroy the satellites. Then Lando Calrissian and Nien Nunb come with a whole squad of fighters and win the battle. In the last issue of the comic, Luke Skywalker shows up in an imperial shuttle that he took after the destruction of the 2nd death star. He dresses up Shara Dameron as an imperial named Commander Beck and uses his Imperial shuttle as cover. Luke gives Artoo his lightsaber so it won’t be noticed by the imperials and they inspect the security of this imperial lab where they do experiments. As they get in the lab, the imperial says that he and the now dead Emperor are the only ones with access to this lab. He knows they are fake, because the real Commander Beck is missing her left eye. Luke gets his lightsaber and fights the stormtroopers off, while Shara Dameron and Artoo get what they were coming for in the first place, trees that were the only part of a tree left that grew on the jedi temple on Coruscant. They get the trees and leave successfully. The Damerons both decide that they should retire since they have put in a lot of work for the rebellion, and what good does fighting for a good life do if you can’t enjoy it. They also want to have some much needed time with their son Poe as well. The Damerons get to keep on of the force trees at their new home, but who knows what the significance of this is, or if there is any.
