I would like to begin by making a declaration. I am not spoiler free. Judging from the many spoiler websites and podcasts, neither are a lot of Star Wars fans. Up until this point I have not really cared how much I might learn about EP VII. However, today something changed. I watched the second teaser trailer.
When I watched this trailer my mind was racing with every rumor I had heard, trying to connect the dots. Thinking about it I realized that I did not really want to experience this in the theater and the 37 and a half times I watch it in the weeks after. I don’t really want to have to think when I watch this movie. I have heard it many times and I’m sure you have too, but I just want to enjoy it for what it is. I never really understood why certain people felt like this, but now I think I do.
Another reason why I wanted to know all the rumors before was that I was still apprehensive if they would mess up the movie. I guess subconsciously I felt that if I kept track of the movies progress I would keep it from doing anything “wrong”. However, this trailer helped allay my fears and help to convince me that these people know what they are doing, and it is going to be a great year for Star Wars.
I don’t think that I will be able to stay completely spoiler free, but I am going to try to no longer going to seek them out. If you love to hear all the rumors or if you don’t, either way, send me an email with your reasons why or why not. I’d also love to hear your response after watching the movie and tell me why or why not listening to the rumors helped or hurt your movie going experience.
